Paul Bailey is the Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Council, the UK’s regulatory body for the engineering profession. The organisation sets and maintains standards of professional competence and commitment and holds the national Register of over 220,00 engineers and technicians who have been assessed against these standards and awarded one of our professional titles.

With a degree in Physics from the University of Manchester and a background in aerospace and aviation, Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Chartered Manager and a Member of the Institute of Physics.

Before becoming CEO, Paul served as Deputy CEO & Operations Director at the Engineering Council for over eight years, following his earlier role as Deputy CEO at the Royal Aeronautical Society, the UK’s profession body for aerospace and aviation. He now leads the organisation’s staff team and represents the Engineering Council across numerous national and international partnerships, championing professional standards, registration, and the role of engineering in society.
